At the beginning of February, on a very cold and even wetter Sunday morning, I helped with the marshalling for the Wokingham half marathon. This is an important event for enthusiastic competitors as it is the first race of the racing season and is a qualifying event for later races in the year.
It is a fun event where many local charities, such as the Guides and Scouts as well as Raynet, help man the Start/Finish area and the outlying marshal posts.
The event raised £15,000 for charity. This is divided between selected supported charities and the organisations that helped with the running and organisation of the race. As Raynet helped I was asked to go to a presentation evening and collect a cheque on their behalf.
When I arrived I was greeted by the main organiser and my name was checked off the guest list. There was a short presentation as the cheques were given to each recipient in turn, and then our photo was taken by the Wokingham Times photographer. This was followed by a well presented buffet.
