St Mary’s parish church, Slough, has entertained over 2000 visitors over the years raising much needed funds for the church upkeep through popular free concerts on Saturdays. These have now been running for 24 years and have presented many different forms of music including choirs, organists, soloists, and wind ensembles.
Today’s concert, entitled "To shorten winter’s sadness", was given by The Monday Madrigalists whose members sing with several groups in Berkshire and beyond, including Reading Minster midweek choir, The Reading Bach Choir, and Herald Singers.
They sang traditional folk songs from around the British Isles including Widdecombe Fair and Ye banks and braes. Numbering only 11 singers, including the leader, they produced a powerful rich sound which complemented the magnificent interior of St. Mary’s church.www.stmarys-slough.org.uk
