I recently attended a Civil War fun day at West Berkshire Museum. The Civil War Society had taken over the museum and were demonstrating skills of the 17th century to members of the public in full period costumes. Every so often, some of their members would go outside and march up and down Newbury High Street to, quite literally, drum up business.
There was a man hammering coins and explaining how they used to make their money. Elsewhere there was a table displaying various implements of torture for you to look at, with a man, rather too enthusiastically, explaining what they were all for.
Admission was free.
