Euphonium Concert

On Saturday I went to one of the lunchtime concerts held at St. Mary’s Slough. This concert was given by Charley Brighton playing the euphonium accompanied by Malcolm Stowell on the piano and organ.

These concerts start at 12:00 and I usually arrive a little bit early. I therefore go to the community café in the Methodist church which is a short walk down the road from St. Mary’s. Several people meet here before the concert for a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich. This week the hot topic of conversation was about how well the GB Team was doing in the Winter Olympics.

Before playing each piece, Charley gave a short introduction to provide some context and history of the music. Playing both solo and combine pieces the warm sound of the euphonium, piano, and organ was very relaxing. Both Charley and Malcolm are very accomplished musicians, and together they performed a delightful concert.

The on-street parking is easy, and access is OK, but sometimes you have to ask them to put the ramp out for the few steps into the church.
