Before taking my seat at the Easter concert at St. Mary’s Slough, I looked at the Easter displays that had been made, and placed to one side of the church, by local school children. These typically displayed three crosses and an empty tomb.
The concert was a performance of organ music, performed by Malcolm Stowell, for Easter. He played some very quiet and thoughtful pieces building up to a loud finale of An Easter Alleluya by Gordon Slater, which made the floor tremble with the low bass notes.
These concerts happen every week at St. Mary’s and are free. However, they are always grateful to receive donations as the church costs at least £200 per day to run. There is on street parking nearby and a small ramp for access to the church but once inside it is all flat.
