After much Christmas indulgence and seeing family, I started the New Year by going to St. Mary’s Church in Slough for a concert of organ music for Epiphany. Epiphany is the special day in the Christian calendar to remember when the three wise men visited the baby Jesus in the stable and brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.
Before attending the weekly concert, I tucked into a very tasty bacon roll at the community café in the local Methodist church which is just around the corner from St. Mary’s.
For the concert they played an arrangement for organ of “In the deep midwinter” and other seasonal pieces which reverberated around the church. This was much more visible than usual as they had got some new technology for Christmas. There was a new big screen linked to a camera which was showing the organ keyboard and the organist playing as he “pulled out all the stops”.
These weekly lunchtime concerts are lovely to attend. Admission is by donation and access is ok.
