There is not a lot to do in January, its cold, dark, and wet. So, something to do inside is preferable. The Milestones Museum fits the bill with lots to see and historic streets to explore all in a giant warehouse.
The shops and workshops depict a bygone time which you can walk through. Including a real pub with sawdust on the floor (over 18s only) and a sweetshop where you can get traditional sweets weighed into a paper bag. You are encouraged to look behind all the doors there are some surprises to be found.
Away from the streets there are other exhibitions to look at explaining the recent past and you can try your luck in a penny arcade.
It was a good day out. Admission is £12. Parking is free, and access is flat, although in my wheelchair the cobbled streets made my teeth shake.
